    ΠΕΝΘΕΥΣ ἄγ’ ὡς τάχιστα· τοῦ χρόνου δέ σοι φθονῶ.
    ΔΙΟΝΥΣΟΣ στεῖλαί νυν ἀμφὶ χρωτὶ βυσσίνους πέπλους.
    Πε. τί δὴ τόδ’; ἐς γυναῖκας ἐξ ἀνδρὸς τελῶ;
    Δι. μή σε κτάνωσιν, ἢν ἀνὴρ ὀφθῆις ἐκεῖ.
    Πε. εὖ γ’ εἶπας αὖ τόδ’· ὥς τις εἶ πάλαι σοφός.
    Δι. Διόνυσος ἡμᾶς ἐξεμούσωσεν τάδε.

    —Euripides, Bacchae 820-5

    CHORVS: O regnorum magnis fallax
         Fortuna bonis,
    in praecipiti dubioque locas
         excelsa nimis.
    Numquam placidam sceptra quietem
    certumue sui tenuere diem:
    alia ex aliis cura fatigat
    uexatque animos noua tempestas.

    —Seneca the Younger, Agamemnon 57–63
