Dear all,
Thank you for your patience while we took a short summer break. And thank you for your many comments and suggestions. We haven’t been able to respond to each directly, but we read them all carefully. Really only the following came up as a thing for us to discuss:
A few of you have asked that we provide context for passages. A few have also been happy that we don’t. We thought about it and decided for the time being to keep to our current context-less approach, including in the title of posts and emails. Our reasoning is that this best mimics the exam environment of our target audience: students who are asked to translate or comment on passages without context. That said, we will be happy to be persuaded otherwise as the project continues. You know how to contact us.
Also, though no one raised this as an issue: we apologize for the Luddite display of our daily posts, especially via email. We’d have more control over this is we paid extra for a WordPress upgrade, which we aren’t very interested in doing. If it’s an issue, WordPress aficionados are welcome to contact us about improving the display!
Lastly, if you stumble upon passages of your own that you think would be fitting for Classics Every Day, send them along and we’ll add you as a contributor. Often we simply pick our favorite passages, so long as they are relatively sight-readable. We’d be happy to see your favorite passages too.
Posts will resume in a few days. Stay tuned!
All best in the meantime,
James & David
